Frequently asked questions

Is my photo uploaded to remove the background?

No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser once and runs there, so the photo itself never leaves your device. That is the difference from most background removers, which send your photo to their servers to process it. You can check by opening your browser's network panel while it works.

Does it work on objects, products or logos?

It is made for people. The model is trained on portraits, and on a photo of a product or a pet it may keep the wrong parts or nothing at all; the tool tells you when it cannot find a person. For a logo or a product on a plain white background, the white background remover does a cleaner job, because it clears the white itself rather than looking for a subject.

Why is there a 25 MB download the first time?

That is the AI model itself, and downloading it is the price of never uploading your photo. It happens once, from this site rather than a third party, and your browser keeps it, so the next photo starts in a second or two.

How do I blur the background of a photo?

Drop the photo in and choose Blurred photo. The person is cut out and laid over a softened copy of the same photo, which is what a phone's portrait mode does. It works best when the person is clearly in front of the background rather than surrounded by other people.

How do I make the background white?

Choose White under Behind the person, and download. The result is saved as a JPG, since there is nothing transparent left to keep. For a passport or ID photo, check the official size and framing rules as well, since a white background is only one of them.

The edges have a faint halo. How do I fix it?

Raise Clean up the edges. It clears the faint haze the model leaves over background it was not sure about, and firms up the edge of the person. Lower it again if fine hair starts to disappear. Very busy backgrounds and hair against a similar color are the hardest cases for any background remover.

Can I put the cut-out on a different photo?

Yes. Keep the background transparent, then use Send to another tool and choose Overlay Images. Then add the photo you want them in: it goes behind the person and fills the canvas, and you can move and resize the person on top of it.
