Frequently asked questions
- What size should a Facebook cover photo be?
- For a page, upload at 851 x 315 pixels. Groups use a wider 1640 x 856, and event covers are 1920 x 1005. Uploading at the exact size stops Facebook from rescaling and softening the image.
- Why does my cover photo look cropped on my phone?
- Facebook shows a narrower slice of the cover on mobile than on desktop, cutting into the left and right edges. Keep logos and text near the centre — roughly the middle 640 pixels of an 851-wide cover are safe on both.
- Why does my cover look blurry after uploading?
- Almost always because the source was smaller than the target and had to be enlarged, or because Facebook recompressed an oversized file. Uploading at the exact pixel size gives the best result.
- Should I fill and crop, or fit the whole image?
- Fill and crop suits photographs, where trimming the edges costs nothing. Fit whole image suits designed graphics with text or a logo, where losing an edge would ruin it — the padding color is yours to choose, so it can match the design.
- Is my image uploaded to a server?
- No. Resizing happens entirely in your own browser using the Canvas API. The file never leaves your device, and nothing is stored.
