Frequently asked questions
- Can I convert different file types at the same time?
- Yes, and that is why this tool exists alongside the format-specific ones. Drop a mixture of JPGs, PNGs and WebPs together and they will all be converted to whichever output format you pick. The format-specific pages are quicker to reach if you already know exactly what you have.
- Which format should I convert to?
- WebP for anything going on a website, since it produces the smallest files and every current browser supports it. JPG when something needs to accept the file and you are not certain it understands WebP. PNG when you need transparency, or when the image is a screenshot, logo or diagram rather than a photograph.
- Is there a limit on how many images I can convert?
- No. Nothing is uploaded, so there is no server cost to cap and no queue to wait in. The practical limit is your own device's memory, and a few hundred images at a time is comfortable on a modern phone or laptop.
- Does converting reduce the quality?
- It depends on the direction. Converting to PNG is lossless, so nothing is discarded. Converting to JPG or WebP is lossy, and if the source was already a JPG or WebP that means a second lossy pass, which costs a little detail. The quality slider controls how much. At 85 the difference is not visible at normal viewing size.
- Will my image dimensions change?
- No. Width and height in pixels stay exactly the same. Only the format and file size change. If you also need different dimensions, the image resizer does that, and resizing usually saves far more than converting.
- What happens to transparency when I convert to JPG?
- JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with a background colour you choose. That is a permanent change, so if the transparency matters, convert to PNG or WebP instead — both keep it.
- Are my images uploaded to a server?
- No. Everything happens in your own browser using the Canvas API. Your files never leave your device, which is also why there is no size limit, no queue, and no account to create.
