How it works

Frequently asked questions
- Is the area outside the circle really transparent?
- Yes. The corners are erased rather than filled with white, so the result sits on any background color without a visible square behind it. That is the whole difference between this and drawing a circle over a photo.
- Why must the download be a PNG?
- JPG has no transparency channel, so saving as JPG would fill the corners with a solid color and put the square straight back. PNG keeps them genuinely empty.
- My circle looks square again after uploading it somewhere. Why?
- Some platforms flatten transparency onto a white background when they process an upload, and others crop to their own circle anyway. Nothing on our side can prevent that — but the file you download does have a transparent background, which you can confirm by opening it over a colored layer.
- What size will the circle be?
- The selection is square and the circle fills it, so a 600 x 600 selection produces a 600 x 600 PNG with a 600 pixel circle inside it. Larger is safer — the platform will scale it down, and downscaling looks far better than upscaling.
- Can I use this without a mouse?
- Yes. Tab to the selection, then arrow keys move it, Shift with arrows moves faster, and Alt with arrows resizes.
- Is my image uploaded to a server?
- No. Cropping happens entirely in your own browser using the Canvas API. The file never leaves your device, and nothing is stored.
