Common use cases

Frequently asked questions

Why crop to a square rather than let the platform do it?
Because the platform picks the crop for you, and it usually takes the exact centre. Cropping first means you decide what stays in frame — which matters whenever the subject is not dead centre.
What size square will I get?
As large as the selection you drag, taken at the original resolution. On a 4000 x 3000 photo the biggest possible square is 3000 x 3000. To land on an exact size like 1080 x 1080, crop here and then use the image resizer.
Does cropping lose quality?
No. The square is copied out of the original at native resolution, so those pixels are unchanged. Only enlarging afterwards would soften it.
Can I use this without a mouse?
Yes. Tab to the selection, then arrow keys move it, Shift with arrows moves faster, and Alt with arrows resizes. It works on touchscreens too.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Cropping happens entirely in your own browser using the Canvas API. The file never leaves your device, and nothing is stored.
